About Us

Old North State Landscape's (ONS) partners in ownership, Bill Strope and Wil Lang, have been working together for over a decade to create and implement landscape design in the greater Triangle area. The two men first began collaborating on creative projects in 1994, and in 2000 they joined efforts to officially create Old North State Landscape Development Company.

Bill Strope

Strope's inauguration into landscape design began in 1985 when he founded an independently owned gardening company in Beaufort, North Carolina. Since then, Strope's vision has grown dynamically. After moving away from Beaufort in 1990 to expand into the Raleigh/Durham triangle, Strope built Old North State Landscapes into a reputable landscape design company. After meeting Lang in 1994 and collaborating on a variety of projects between '94-'98, the vision was taken to the next level when the two men joined forces to create Old North States Landscape Development Co.

A charismatic and passionate man, Strope pours his creativity into every aspect of his work. Drawing inspiration from his travels abroad, Strope often incorporates hints of European or Asian style into his designs. One of the few remaining landscape architects to insist on producing hand-drawn sketches and blue-prints, Strope's enthusiasm and creative expertise is evident from the first step of the design process. With an infectiously energetic personality, Bill Strope instantly excites his customers during a consultation as he waves his hands in the air painting a vision for the next design.

Wil Lang

Coming from a background of outdoor lighting and irrigation, Lang's work complements Strope's landscaping perfectly. In stark contrast to Strope, Lang is laid-back, easy going and relaxed, with a knack for problem solving and troubleshooting.

ONS customers get a very sincere honest personal touch to their work. They can expect to see both Bill and Wil offering a hands-on approach throughout the job—it is not just their workers doing the work. This approach has led to a word-of-mouth growth strategy over the many years they have been in business.
